Giuseppina Caligiuri

Research Director, head of the Cardiovascular Immunobiology Team, Laboratory for Vascular Translational Science - INSERM U1148

Giuseppina Caligiuri has a longstanding research experience in the role of inflammation in cardiovascular pathology with a special focus on the role of CD31 in vascular biology and immunology. She works both as a cardiologist and a research scientist at the University Hospital Bichat, in Paris. Giuseppina completed her medical studies and postgraduate specialisation in Cardiology (Prof. Attilio Maseri) at the Catholic University of Rome in 1998 and obtained a PhD in experimental medicine in the laboratory of Prof; Göran Hansson at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm in 2000. Following a postdoc in the laboratory “Cardiovascular Remodeling” (INSERM U460) in Paris she was recruited as project leader in the Cardiovascular R&D Department of Sanofi. In 2002 she went back to academia as principal scientist at Inserm and gained the degree of Research Director in 2009. Since 2018 she has founded two spin-offs (Tridek One and Kapto Medical) based on her academic research and leads the “Cardiovascular Immunobiology” team, within at the Laboratory for Vascular Translational Science, INSERM U1148.
